Ireland
the wild
Atlantic way
DAY ONE
ARRIVE IN DUBLIN
Arrival into Dublin, settled into the hotel before an afternoon on foot through Georgian squares, literary pubs, and Trinity College's old library. The car — or driver — is collected the following morning.
Overnight — Dublin
DAY TWO
SOUTH TO KINSALE
The road turns south toward Kinsale, a harbour town of pastel-painted houses and some of Ireland's best seafood, once a garrison town for the English crown and now one of the country's most relaxed coastal stops.
Overnight — Kinsale
DAY THREE
RING OF KERRY
West into Kerry, the road tracing the Ring past Kenmare, Sneem, and Ladies View, mountains dropping straight into the Atlantic at every turn. The evening settles at Sheen Falls Lodge, a countryside estate built around its own private waterfall.
Overnight — Kenmare
DAY FOUR
DINGLE PENINSULA
North to Dingle, and Slea Head Drive circling the peninsula's outer edge — beehive huts, Gaelic-speaking villages, and a coastline that feels closer to the edge of the country than anywhere else on the route. The evening belongs to Dingle town, and whichever pub has music that night.
Overnight — Dingle
DAY FIVE
CLIFFS OF MOHER AND THE BURREN
A ferry crossing shortens the road north, arriving at the Cliffs of Moher early enough to have them before the crowds do. Beyond the cliffs, the Burren unfolds — a limestone landscape so bare and strange it feels transplanted from somewhere else entirely.
Overnight — Doolin
DAY SIX
GALWAY
A slower day in Galway, a city built for wandering — the Latin Quarter's narrow streets, a harbour that still feels like a fishing town, live music spilling out of doorways by early evening.
Overnight — Galway
DAY SEVEN
CONNEMARA
West into Connemara's bogland and mountains, stopping at Kylemore Abbey beside its lake before the road continues to Cong.
Overnight — Cong, Ashford Castle
DAY EIGHT
ASHFORD CASTLE
A day given to the castle itself and its grounds — falconry on the lawn, a boat out onto Lough Corrib, or simply the estate's own walking trails. No further driving required.
Overnight — Cong, Ashford Castle
DAY NINE
HOMEWARD
The road returns to Dublin for the flight home, or a direct transfer to Shannon, whichever the flight schedule favours.
